kinetic energy The energy an object possesses due to its being in motion. The amount of this energy will depend on both the mass (usually weight) of the object and its speed. Kinetic energy is the energy that an object has from being in motion, it's also the work that’s needed to move an object with mass from rest into motion. Let's take the guy in the video down below as enxample. As the man was running he didn't know the dock that was wet. The water on the dock redused the friction with the man's feet and it didn't slow him down, and that's what happens, energy in motion stays in motion. when the man came to an unexpectedly stop his body was still in motion (he still had pontial energy store away) wich made him go over the railing.
